Ashill Burwood Road Housing Proposals

DECEMBER 2025

Ashill Burwood Road housing proposals

Another Hersham Green Belt Housing Proposal, this time on the south side of Burwood Road, between Vaux Crescent and Turners Lane

ASHILL DEVELOPMENT SITE AREA

Ashill have published a proposal to develop approximately 6.5 acres of Green Belt land with 66 residential units, consisting of 24 flats and 42 houses.

The developers have leafletted an area surrounding the site, informing residents of the proposals. As the land is within the Green Belt it is really important for the wider Hersham area to be informed. There is no doubt that many will fear the proposal from Ashill will be seen as a precedent for further development in this area. The developers have inferred that Elmbridge Borough Council have agreed that this land can now be considered Grey Belt and therefore developable. This is not the case, the matter will only be decided after a robust justification process once a detailed application has been received. You may have views on many other aspects, including potential flooding and surface water drainage, infrastructure, etc. In addition, a recent application for 3 – 5 houses was refused and then dismissed by the Planning Inspectorate on appeal. (2021/1323)The developers are rightly encouraging people to make their views known. Ashill have opened an online consultation between 10 December 2025 and 10 January 2026, a period which many in Hersham have already expressed as inappropriate in view of the holiday period. Please take the opportunity to look at the proposals and respond on any or all the issues that have been raised, or any matter that concerns you.If you are of the view that this is a good scheme then this is also the opportunity to comment. This is a consultation at this stage as a full application is yet to be submitted, at which time you will have the opportunity to formally respond.

It is nonetheless really important to let the developers have your initial views before the stated deadline of 10 January 2026.

There is an obvious decline in what was a viable and valuable asset to the community. This is clearly evidenced by the physical deterioration of the fabric of The Centre and 40% of the shop units are now empty since the purchase of the site in May 2021.
