AT THIS POINT, HERSHAM SHOULD BE PROUD.

We have made our views known loud and clear, without rancour and always relying on facts and reference to planning policy.

ย Hersham is not just about the residents but all the businesses, schools, doctorโ€™s surgery and visitors. Everybody and every group, without exception, has made an objection.

  • To date a total of 2,892 objections have been lodged. This figure has only been achieved by the collective will of Hersham.
  • Waitrose have submitted a formal objection, including serious concerns about the level of the revised parking and the detrimental effect on the vitality and viability of Hersham, which they see as vital to the success of this store.
  • 80% of all businesses within 500m of the Centre have objected. This is an overwhelming message from the business community.
  • Hersham Surgery have objected. They have very serious concerns about their surgery and patient wellbeing. They have also exposed the myth surrounding provision of healthcare facilities within the scheme.
  • Burhill school have sent in two objections outlining their particular concerns, including safety of the children and families. Also the over-bearance and massing of the proposed building and the serious consequences of the revised parking.
  • Two professional transport consultancies have independently advised Hersham residents and Waitrose that the revised parking is inadequate. Moreover, there is no capacity, even now, within the streets of Hersham to cope with any overspill.
  • Surrey County Council Adult Social Care have criticised the application in relation to the lack of detailed information, the lack of proper drawings and a flawed viability assessment. As such, they have not been able to support the application.

The application is scheduled to go before the planning committee of Elmbridge Borough Council on 15 Oct 2024. EBC have confirmed they will accept objections up to this date.

This is all about Hersham. This is OUR village. Yes, we do support improvements but not to the detriment of our businesses, schools and community.

YOUR OBJECTIONS ARE NEEDED NOW

After months of stalling, the developers have finally submitted further information, under planning reference 2024/0498

We thank the many people who are taking an interest in this application, and it is entirely appropriate to now express our deep concerns, even anger, about the very recent turn of events.
