Two Imminent Planning Applications

Burwood Road / Turners Lane

Hersham Village - Burwood road & Turners lane development

The 2 sites that are causing considerable concern are adjoining parcels of land. One site is on the corner of Burwood Road and Turners Lane, known as the Ashill site. The other site is on the adjacent Kennels land on Turners Lane, known as the Castlemere site. Both sites are so named after the developers who are promoting the schemes.

This land is on established Green Belt.

Both developers have requested from Elmbridge Borough Council a screening for an Environmental Impact Assessment. Whilst these requests are relevant, they are not planning applications for the proposed schemes.

The relevant planning applications are expected shortly, following which separate objections must be submitted for each application. Any earlier comments that you made on the Environmental Impact Assessments will not be considered,so it is essential to object again to BOTH applications once they are submitted.

We have been told that the 2 developers are not in consultation with each other.

In the meantime, both developers have prepared public consultation documents. Both are on-line. Normally developers offer a full public consultation, however this has not been offered. Many in the Hersham community are not aware of these documents.

References to 50% affordable housing in these documents is a Government requirement, not a matter of choice as implied by the developers. We will continue to keep the community informed.

Once the applications are submitted, there will be many issues to consider including:

  • Green Belt
  • Substantial and provable surface water flooding over many years
  • Unsustainable location
  • Loss of local employment
  • Loss of local amenity and retired Greyhound kennel charity
  • Loss of wildlife and biodiversity
  • Unsuitable access road
  • Inadequate infrastructure

HERSHAM GREEN SHOPPING CENTRE NEWSLETTER 18 JUNE 2025

Our Newsletter 9 June 2025 made the factual observation that the fabric of The Centre is in visible decline and that 40% of the shop units have become vacant since purchase by the developers.
