You may already be aware of this application to build 62 units on Green Belt land south of 131 to 147 Burwood Road, Hersham. This Green Belt land should not be released. The applicant, Ashill Ltd, has now responded to the massive level of objections and observations from the public, statutory and other consultees.
Elmbridge Borough Council are now inviting further responses. Even if you have already commented, it is vital that you use this opportunity to comment further, or even for the first time.
Positively Hersham has taken the opportunity of reviewing the documents in the short time that has been made available. The following may be a useful reference. It is not a definitive list.
The response from the applicant is basically absent. There is hardly any detailed reference to this core issue. Perhaps the applicant has decided not to provoke further debate.
On Burwood Road do not comply with guidelines for safety and construction. The proposed footways, which adjoin a deep ditch, are too narrow. The proposed fencing is inadequate. It is also proposed to reduce the width of the road to accommodate the footpath. These proposals are potentially very dangerous.
Responses remain incomplete and inadequate. There appears to be a reluctance to be transparent with all the detail of the site regarding protected species and proper, detailed surveys in accordance with the protocols. There is even denial of veteran trees when in fact The Woodland Trust has currently identified seven.
It is acknowledged by the applicants that transport needs to be improved and they have suggested that to achieve non reliance on the car, improved bus stops (but no extra buses) and a dial-a-ride scheme will be sufficient.
Has not been fully addressed, particularly the absence of the required commitment to ensure no flood risk on adjoining land. The northern ditch is vital to the proposals and there are important concerns regarding the ownership of this strip of land.
The whole scheme remains at odds with the local area and introduces a form and pattern of development that is against the established character.

Our Newsletter 9 June 2025 made the factual observation that the fabric of The Centre is in visible decline and that 40% of the shop units have become vacant since purchase by the developers.
