Letter to Quadrant and LaSalle

Dear Sirs

HERSHAM GREEN SHOPPING CENTRE

We, representing Hersham Residents Association, Hersham Village Society and the wider Hersham community, are writing this open letter to you as we are directly affected by planning application 2024/0498 and all matters arising therefrom. Of particular and rapidly growing concern is that, following the refusal of your application by Elmbridge Borough Council Planning Committee on 23 October 2024, you have made no effort to communicate with this community, our Councillors and as far as we are aware our Council Officers.

There is no point in setting out the many reasons why so many people and so many businesses and stakeholders are extremely concerned about this lack of communication. The reasons are obvious and range from the least important issue of lack of respect to the community, to the vastly more important matter of peoples’ lives and businesses. You have created a vacuum of information, while overseeing what appears to be a deterioration in all aspects under your control.

We as a group have a simple mission – do everything we can for the benefit of the individual and Hersham as a community. Your site is one of a number of large and important sites within our boundary. We appreciate and understand the value of detailed and continuing communication. It is a fundamental insight that you need the local community, its agents and representatives on side.

It is against this background that we find the very recent history of your lack of communication even more troubling.

• Hersham Councillor Paul Hughes wrote to the directors of Centrica Combined Common Investment Fund on 28 January 2025 expressing various concerns and this letter was passed to Tom Lewis of LaSalle.
• Mr Lewis replied to Councillor Hughes on 4 February 2025, passing all responsibility to Quadrant Repurpose.
• Councillor Hughes responded to Mr Lewis on 5 February 2025 expressing the view that LaSalle and others have continuing responsibilities in this matter.
• Mr Lewis has not responded. Quadrant Repurpose have not communicated.
• Councillor Hughes wrote further to Christopher Daniel of Quadrant Repurpose on 3 March 2025 again requesting information.
• Christopher Daniel has not responded.

Of course there are going to be matters on which you feel you cannot share, but to completely ignore us and more importantly our local elected representatives is not acceptable.
