What is happening to The Centre?

There is an obvious decline in what was a viable and valuable asset to the community. This is clearly evidenced by the physical deterioration of the fabric of The Centre and 40% of the shop units are now empty since the purchase of the site in May 2021.

Nearly 8 months have passed since the original planning application was unanimously rejected by the Planning Committee of Elmbridge BC.

Since then, have the developers sought dialogue with:

  • Our planning officers at Elmbridge BC?  NO
  • Our 3 local Councillors? NO
  • Our local community?  NO

Our elected Councillors, the Planning Department of Elmbridge Borough Council and your Local Residents Groups have all tried, over several months, to enter into at least some dialogue with Quadrant Repurpose, the developers. All attempts have failed.

This is unacceptable.

WE ALL REMAIN READY TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE FUTURE OF THE CENTRE FOR THE BENEFIT OF EVERYBODY, INCLUDING THE DEVELOPERS. WITHOUT DIALOGUE THERE CAN BE NO PROGRESS
